There are those who claim to have given up smoking all in one day without going through side-effects or having a difficult time saying "no" to another cigarette. I don't care what they say - if they quit that easily and then they were not addicted in the first place. Cigarette addiction is one of the strongest addictions a person can have and while it does not cause aggression and abuse, it can cause premature death. There are several reasons to stop smoking (health, life, family..), but there are not any good reasons to continue to smoke. If you smoke, then quitting is the smartest thing you can do to get healthy.

1. Quitting smoking is not going to be easy. If you are truly addicted, it will be one of the hardest things you have ever done. If you go into your stop smoking plan with the idea that it will be a breeze, you won't be ready to withstand the withdrawal symptoms that inevitably ensue. Be prepared for it to be difficult! This will be a battle but if you prepare yourself, you will win it.

2. You cannot hang around with smokers while they are smoking; especially when you have just begun your journey to being smoke-free. The constant breathing of smoke from others cigarettes will make you feels that you must have one as well. Even if you can withstand the craving, it just seems silly to put yourself through it. Walk away when people light up and do not let them smoke in your home or your vehicle.

3. The plan that works best for you may not be the plan that worked for your neighbor. Every one of us responds differently to certain conditions. By all means, try your neighbors idea, but do not assume you can't quit because what they did does not work well for you. When one avenue fails, try another. Some people respond well to hypnosis while others don't. Some are able to replace cigarettes with exercise. Some require a nicotine patch, gum or inhaler. Some must throw their cigarettes out and call it quits immediately while others do better by quitting in steps. Then there are those who choose to combine a few different strategies in their program for quitting smoking. Don't quit quitting.

The most important thing you need to know to quit smoking is that you CAN quit smoking. Be smart about quitting and eventually you will succeed.

There are so many products and programs that are aimed towards helping people break their smoking habits in the United States today that you certainly will not be able to try them all. But then again, why would you need to try them all when you have one of the perfect ones that experts insist can stop you from smoking once and for all.

Talk to your doctor anytime, and they will tell you that your best shot at quitting smoking and staying that way is to take the SMART shot. If you haven't heard of it by now, you need to do some self-examination, especially if you have been trying time and again to quit smoking and you have not quite made it.

The reason why a lot of people find it hard to break the smoking habit is because they are addicted to the nicotine in tobacco. Nicotine enters your bloodstream through your lungs, and from there it travels to your heart. From your heart, it is pumped along with the rest of your red blood cells into your brain where it damages the cells that help you generate chemicals for satisfaction. As a result, you want more, and more, and more, until you really cannot get enough.

Nicotine prompts the reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin, resulting in mood changes and a feeling of relaxation that is not quite real, and that is never enough. What the SMART shot does is that it inhibits the reuptake of this and other neurotransmitters in your system so that your craving for the substance lessens appreciably.

Are you thinking about using smoking cessation drugs to help you quit smoking? There is some important information you may want to know before you decide to start using smoking cessation medications.

Millions of smokers are turning to drug-makers to help them quit their smoking habit. They see and hear the advertisements offering hope that a little pill can help them to finally quit smoking. But just how successful are these smoking cessation medications and what price do smokers have to pay to quit smoking with a pill?

Studies conducted by the pharmaceutical companies themselves do not show very promising results. The drugs are approved by the FDA because they are shown in studies to be more effective than a placebo. But it is not hard to beat a placebo and some of the success rates are skewed to only show success while the drug is actually being used.

Take a test of one of the more popular anti-smoking medications. During the 12 weeks that patients were using the drug a little less than 50% were able to stop smoking. But what about long-term results? The number falls from 50% to 25% after one year. So the successful results they may advertise are not necessarily long-term and smokers may have to go through several rounds of the drug until they finally quit smoking fro a long period of time.

Smoking cessation drugs also have health risks and serious side effects. These side effects range from the physical to the psychological. Closer listens to advertisements reveal warnings about suicidal behaviors and mood swings. These kinds of warnings can be scary to people who are looking to quit smoking.

There are also high expenses related to using smoking cessation medications. Smokers may have to use the medications for a long period of time (up to 12 weeks) for them to work. If they do not work the first time they may have to go through another round of use adding to the expense. A lot of times these medications are not covered by insurance plans.

The good news is that there are natural methods to quit smoking that are more effective than smoking cessation drugs and do not include the expenses and side effects associated with medications. More and more smokers are turning to these natural alternatives to quit smoking as they become more educated about the true nature of smoking cessation drugs.

One of the most effective natural techniques to quit smoking is called NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming. This is a form of hypnotherapy that the smoker can administer to themselves by simply listening to an audio recording. It offers a very high rate of success and, as a form of hypnotherapy, it does not have any of the scary or unpleasant side effects of smoking cessation drugs.

Many smokers typically think that hypnosis is going to automatically make them stop smoking. Or they go into it thinking that only people with weak will power can stop smoking with hypnosis. There are few things that all smokers should know before they decide to use hypnosis to stop smoking.

The most important thing is the smoker has to make the decision to quit. Hypnosis does not make you do anything against your will contrary to what you see on stage shows or Hollywood. Hypnosis can help you to not feel urges, cravings, and desires to smoke. It can help you to feel fulfilled instead of feeling like something is missing. It can help you to not feel irritable, and handle stress better. But ultimately, the smoker has to make the decision to quit. That is the most important part about using Hypnosis to stop smoking. Because even if the hypnosis session completely eliminates your cravings, and you have no desire, you can still decide to pick one up!

So that is the most important part about it. As long as you can make the decision, hypnosis is the most valuable tool you can possibly use. When using hypnosis to stop smoking you have very little or no withdrawal symptoms from nicotine. There is no need for any nicotine patches or gums. You will feel fulfilled and complete by using hypnosis to quit smoking.

That being said, there are many different methods out there for quitting smoking. Not every hypnotist really knows what they are doing unfortunately. Some people offer stop smoking hypnosis in one session. Some people offer it in 3 sessions, and some even more than that. The reason for this is based on success rates and the actual person. The biggest reason is because of hypnotizability. Not everyone feels the instant effects of hypnosis at the same pace. If you use hypnosis to stop smoking you will notice a difference right away. But it does not necessarily mean you have complete success after one session. There are some people who are naturally somnambalistic, which means they instantly go to the deepest state of hypnosis right away. That is about 1 in 5 people. And many other people are able to go very deep into hypnosis on the first session. These people are the ones who can quit in one session. Do not worry, it has nothing to do with your intelligence. It is simply based on the size of your pituitary gland in your brain. There has been no relation at all based on someone's intelligence. If you do not naturally go deep, as some people do, that simply means you need more sessions to get into the deep state of hypnosis to create a more profound effect. Hypnosis works for everybody, the only problem is people give up on it sometimes after one session because they lose confidence in it. This is why many hypnotherapist's require three sessions for using hypnosis. And that is why you should consider a three session or more program. It only gets better with more sessions but do not let anyone simply get more money out of you with 5+ sessions. But in general, three sessions is the ideal number for hypnosis. And make sure you do at least more than one session in order to use hypnosis properly.

I like to use the factory worker metaphor when describing why someone should have multiple sessions. If you are learning a job as a factory worker where you only have to do one task, such as put a lid onto something, then you can learn that quickly and easily. Your mind becomes "trained" quickly and you eventually can do that job without thinking. But if you were to get a much harder job where you built an entire product, then it would take you more days to eventually get to where you could do the job "subconsciously". Hypnosis works exactly the same way. You are training your body to feel a certain way and the more complicated it is, the more sessions it takes. If you are trying to stop nail biting, that is typically a one session program. If you are trying to lose weight, that is four to six sessions. And stop smoking hypnosis falls into the three sessions on average category. So make sure you give it at least a three session program whatever you decide to do.

You have a few decisions. You can go to a local hypnotherapist and be charged anywhere from one hundred to three hundred dollars per session. Or you can choose a program online that would probably be less than one hundred dollars.

The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer recently made a new development with the drug Chantix or Varenicline. This drug provides smokers with a miraculous aid to help control their cravings and successfully quit smoking in just one try. The FDA approved Chantix on May 11, 2006 and it has already shown that it is much more superior than any other drugs on the market for quitting smoking.

Precise parts of the brain are targeted by Chantix which helps people stop smoking by giving them the same satisfaction that they get from nicotine and lessening the withdrawal symptoms in the process. It also prevents the pertinent parts of the brain from absorbing nicotine so that smokers do not feel their normal reward from smoking.

Six clinical trials have confirmed the success of Chantix in helping individuals quit smoking. A total of 3,659 chronic smokers were involved in the study. In five of the six studies the clinical trials proved that Chantix was greater to placebos in helping individuals to stop smoking. Previously most of the smokers in the trial had smoked 21 cigarettes a day for about 25 years. Two of the five studies compared Chantix to Zyban, another drug for smokers, and was proven to be far more effective.

Chantix is taken orally through a capsule. A doctor will typically prescribe a treatment course of Chantix which is 0.5 mg once a day for 1 to 3 days, then 0.5 mg twice a day for the next 4 to 7 days and finally 1 mg twice a day for 12 weeks. Although for some smokers it may be necessary to have a longer treatment period of Chantix.

Side Effects

Nicotine is so addictive that many individuals come to depend on it both physically and mentally. Chantix is a new treatment option that helps ease the withdrawal symptoms that prevent most from quitting smoking. The success of this drug has been clearly proved. It may very well be the perfect non-traumatic way to quit smoking as long as individuals follow proper dosing, monitoring of contraindications and information of side effects. The most common side effects linked to Chantix include nausea, headache, problems with sleeping and changes in dreams.

Benefits

Chantix is specifically formatted to help individuals stop smoking. Precise parts of the brain are targeted by this drug which helps individuals to stop smoking. This medication also has the major benefit of helping to ease the difficult withdrawal symptoms of those who are trying to quit smoking. It does this by preventing the brain from providing the reward sensation that individuals get when smoking. Essentially it blocks the effects of nicotine.

If there's one thing that is known to contribute to almost all diseases, it's smoking. Stop smoking if you want to help prevent cancer, diabetes, asthma, digestion problems, liver problems, kidney problems, and most important of all, heart and lung problems.

Smokers have been known to have a variety of different diseases, and the first thing that a doctor suggests is to stop smoking! The major problem attributed to smoking is COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This is a destructive lung disease that blocks the airways and prevents you from breathing normally. To stop smoking is the best way to prevent COPD, or, if you already have COPD, at least help control the symptoms. There are also medications also that can take care of COPD signs and symptoms to some extent.

In the case of COPD, the breathing tubes start getting clogged up and that prevents entry of oxygen into the lungs. The inhalers used by such patients actually help open constricted airways and facilitate the passage of more air into the lungs. If you do not stop smoking, the alveoli--the fine finger like projections inside the lungs--will get clogged up, and this will prevent the diffusion of gasses inside the lungs.

Doctors typically tell the patients to stop smoking because the tar deposition from the smoke first burns up the fine flagella inside the air tubes. Over time, the tar deposits continue to build up more and more, and the air channel becomes too narrow to let air pass through. COPD can be a fatal disease if you do not stop smoking after the warning signs start to show up. The warning signs include difficulty in breathing, fatigue, wheezing and a constant phlegmatic cough.

A patient suffering with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ends up having brittle lungs and decrease lung function, which results in the lungs being unable to maintain the rhythm of normal breathing. This causes oxygen deficiency in the body and the vital organs start to malfunction. In most cases the COPD patient is left with nominal functionality of the lungs, and this reduces his or her body function to a mere subsistence level. Such patients have far more painful lives and often need the help of external breathing devices and home oxygen. Having COPD can make minor tasks like preparing a cup of coffee a tiring event.

If you stop smoking now, you can not only help prevent COPD, but also a host of other diseases that are known to be either caused by or aggravated by smoking.
