The truth is, if it was easy to quit smoking about 21 million people would have quit last year. But, at best only about 5% of those smokers had any success. Even with the drug industry making stop smoking drugs available to the public, success still eludes most people. If taking a drug were the answer, than 95% should have been successful. Unfortunately, the side effects caused by these drugs caused as many problems as the smoking did.
I'm not going to recite all the well known reasons to stop smoking as you already know what they are.
Smokers continue to seek out non painful ways to get rid of the habit, yet no real headway has been realized. In fact there are new statistics that indicate that smoking percentages may have actually increased in the past couple of years. Fortunately, there are still many new ways being discovered each and every day. Not every new method works for everyone who tries it, but as long as one person out of a hundred is able to stop than we are making progress.
Some people have been helped by their involvement in the new social media platforms found on the internet. While that is not the answer for everyone, I will try to pass on some ideas that hopefully will be of benefit to YOU.
- Do not dwell on what has not worked so far
In fact try to purge the past from your mind and start fresh only looking ahead to your future success. Keep focused on how you well feel when you have conquered this habit that has held you captive for so long.
- It may sound stupid, but commit to writing your own personal reasons for wanting to quit.
Don't just think about the obvious reasons everyone has, but this time make it personal. If you have a family and part of your reason is for them, than write down the names of these people and why it would be important for them as well.
When deciding how you will attack this project, remember how your body will react to your attempts to quit. Be prepared to counter attack with different strategies each time your body tells you "no you won't". You need to fight back and tell it back, "yes I can!"
- Create a direct connection to friends of yours who are on your side in this quest.
Determine how you will communicate with those people when you feel weak. It should not be too hard with all this instant communication devices available to us today. Let these things be your weapons in fighting back when you need help.
Don't be afraid to talk to your medical professionals about this and take their suggestions in consideration. But just don't follow the leader, do some research to get at the truth about what you are being told and make sure it is right for you.
- If you should be so inclined to try prescription medication, please be aware of the unholy alliance between the FDA and the drug industry.
Personally, I do not believe anything the FDA says as they are all in bed with the Drug Industry and receive financial rewards for passing laws that favor the drug industry. Try to find ways of kicking this habit that eliminate as many of the health risks as possible. There are many health risks associated with smoking, so eliminate one at a time if necessary. Remember, this is probably one of the most difficult things you will ever have to do.
So be patient and do not expect to do it over night.
