Chantix is used to address smoking addiction by causing the smoker's body to reduce nicotine cravings thus lose interest in smoking altogether. As the body goes through the withdrawal process, some changes may be noticeable and give rise to concerns. Having gone through testing by the relevant drug authorities, known Chantix side effects have been documented so that users can be well-informed and more prepared.

The most common side effects of Chantix use are nausea, headaches, sleeping difficulty, problems with digestion and bowel movement, mood swings and behavioral changes. More serious cases develop into depression, hallucinations, hostility and even suicidal tendencies which may culminate in the actual deed. Since this drug carries "black-box" warnings on potential risks of psychiatric problems, those with prior history of mental illness need to take necessary precautions to not further aggravate their condition.

Other Chantix side effects include cumbersome skin reactions such as rashes, blisters, redness and swelling. However, these allergic reactions become life-threatening when they cause the mouth and throat to swell, and obstruct the respiratory system. Asthmatic sufferers are at the greatest risk.

Chantix can also cause visual impairment, new onset of diabetes as it influences the effects of insulin, and heart problems as it interacts with blood thinners. Expecting mothers or those planning to become pregnant also need to take safety measures before taking Chantix. Discuss with your doctor your medical history and full list of medications to avoid nasty surprises. Refrain from driving or operating heavy machinery in case you develop problems midway. It's also not advisable to take other quit-smoking products with Chantix.

Since symptoms can arise upon commencement and/or progressive use of Chantix, it's best to monitor your body's physical reaction and behavior when you start using it. If the situation takes a turn for the worse, stop use and seek medical attention right away. Sometimes, symptoms persist even after stopping use.

Since Chantix has quite an extensive list of known side-effects, it's best to inform your family and those close to you so that they're aware and know what to do in case you develop serious problems.
