Chantix is a name to reckon with for smokers who have been unsuccessfully trying to quit smoking. This drug might give them a new hope when everything else is failing. It might provide them a new life by saving them from the bondage of Nicotine. This drug can help them quit smoking as it has the potential to cut off the cravings for cigarettes.

There are several medications available in the market used for the treatment of nicotine addiction known as nicotine replacement therapy. Under this treatment Nicotine gums, Nicotine patches, Nicotine inhaler, Nicotine nasal spray, Nicotine lozenges etc are given to the patient. When these medications are applied they work as a replacement for Nicotine. However, the success rate for this kind of treatment is not so high, as a person is back to smoking within a few months after completing the treatment mostly because of the cravings which are not cured by these therapies. Therefore, you need to have a strong will power in order to completely quit smoking if you are opting for this kind of treatment.

Chantix works differently from these replacement therapies. A person who takes chantix need not quit smoking then and there. Chantix works for long term effectiveness. Chantix activates the nicotinic receptor a4b2 in the brain thereby blocking the activation of the neurotransmitter Dopamine which controls our emotions. Chantix is non-addictive but gives you the same feel good factor which Nicotine does. It also diminishes the taste of cigarette and kills the craving for smoke. With Chantix you can gradually, completely quit smoking for good.

Pfizer inc. is the manufacturer of Chantix and it was approved by US F.D.A on May 11, 2006 as a treatment for anti-smoking in adults. Varenicline (as the tartrate salt) is the main component of Chantix. It comes in 0.5mg tablet which is white to off white in color and 1mg tablet which is light blue in color.

However, it is important to note that like all drugs chantix also has some harmful side effects. After taking chantix if you suffer from the followings mild sickness like nausea, sleep disorder, gas, sleeplessness, constipation, headache, loss of taste etc do not panic as they are just chantix side effects. Therefore, it is advised that to consult a physician before taking chantix.
