It feels almost silly, and it's not as if you're a heroin junky or anything, shouldn't you just be able to quit marijuana when you want to? Marijuana is addictive. It's not as addictive as narcotics or cocaine, but since the potency of the drug has increased so much over the last decades so to has marijuana become an addictive substance; and when you try to stop, as with an addiction to any drug, there is a syndrome of detox.

Marijuana detox pains include insomnia, irritability, headaches, nausea and others, and all are combined with an incredible carving to use. Detox is real, and it's tough enough that a lot of people just can't get past the first week of abstinence, and in a moment of weakness just light up that joint that they know is going to make all the pain go away.

You can beat an addiction to marijuana, here's how.

1) Get off the couch

Seriously, it's the last thing that you'll feel like doing, but a day of play station in a darkened room does not bode well for your quest at sobriety. Don't spend the day brooding and moping, force yourself to get off the couch, and get out and do something active.

Do something that you don't associate with marijuana, do something active, do it with sober friends and choose something that's going to last all day and hopefully tire you out. You only need to make it through 3 or 4 days to get through the worst of it, so you only need 3 or 4 good day long activities and you're done.

2) Exercise

It's the depression, the anxiety and the insomnia that get most of us when we try to quit, and there aren't any medications that really work to better these symptoms of detox. Thankfully, simple vigorous exercise can help a lot.

You'll feel lethargic and you won't want to get out and get active, but once you do, you'll get your heart rate up, start the endorphins pumping and you'll start to feel a lot better, a lot less depressed, and if you exercise for long enough, you might just tire yourself out enough to get to sleep at night!

3) Go to a meeting

This last one seems extreme, and most of us who get addicted to marijuana still don't consider ourselves addicts like those people that need NA. Bu we've got to face the facts here, and if you are addicted, you are an addict, and that's exactly the kind of people that benefit from NA meetings.

You may not have to go forever, but meetings are free and there is little harm in giving it a try; and who knows, it might help a lot. It might make the difference. Marijuana addiction is real, it's tough to get past it, and there aren't really any medications or therapies that can ease the pains of detox. You just need determination, you need to get active and you need to get a little support to see you through.

You can do it, it will be worth it, and you'll feel much better, much more energetic and far sharper once you no longer need to smoke pot at all hours of the day. You only live once, and once marijuana becomes more harmful than enjoyable, you've got to face facts and get sober.

So, you've gotten to the point where you are serious about kicking the smoking habit but you don't really want to use drugs or other medications. The good news is that you can quit smoking without drugs or medication. In fact using this method may even make you learn to hate the smell and taste of cigarettes.

This approach is radical and I'm sure it wouldn't be recommended by many health care professionals. But come to think of it, smoking is not recommended by health care professionals either.

This is quite an extreme method so you probably shouldn't use it for more than two or three days in a row. Once you have done it though, chances are that you might quit for good right then and there. If down the road you do start smoking again, just repeat the process again to get back on track.

Here's how to do it.

Try to choose a time when you will be able to smoke any time, night or day. A good time might be the weekend or whenever you get time off from work. If you work at home or are a stay-at-home mom try to have someone else available to help with childcare if you can.

Step one starts the minute you get up. Before you do anything else, light up a cigarette and then smoke the whole thing as quickly as possible before doing anything else. Don't stop to brush your teeth or shower. Head right to the kitchen, light a second cigarette and again smoke this one as quickly as possible.

Then make yourself a cup of your usual morning beverage. Before taking even a sip, once again and as quickly as you can, smoke another cigarette. Have your coffee, tea, or juice and another cigarette.

You are going to repeat this process of only doing one small thing followed up by smoking a cigarette in a quick, unpleasant way before you let yourself do anything else. Your goal will be to smoke as many cigarettes as possible and experience the frustration of how long it takes to get even the smallest of tasks finished.

By smoking each cigarette as rapidly as you can, you are taking away the pleasure of leisurely puffing and relaxing. Instead you want each cigarette to be as hot and unpleasant as possible. Avoid taking a break between puffs or putting the cigarette down at all. Smoke each cigarette way faster than you normally would.

Make yourself smoke way more than you usually would. Really concentrate on smoking. Notice how bad your mouth tastes after awhile, and how your fingers reek of smoke. Mostly though, notice how much you are not enjoying smoking. Keep this up until bedtime.

With any luck you will wake up with at least a slight headache and a queasy stomach, your chest will feel heavy, and you may find yourself coughing a lot. Don't let that stop you. In fact, you are going to do it all again the second day. This extreme method is a good way to quit smoking without drugs. If you can make yourself stick to it for a weekend or two, you may even learn to hate the smell and taste of cigarettes.

When people try to stop smoking they don't really understand the 2 specific problems they face and there attempts to stop smoking fail.

Understand the problems and the solutions are straightforward.

Let's look at them.

The first problem is mental addiction.

Most people see cigarettes as a friend that they can't let go.

Smoking is social and pleasurable (despite the health risks) and to overcome mental addiction you simply must want to stop.

You know the health risks and the cost and you know deep down if you really want to stop.

If you do you will, if you don't you wont. It's a simple choice.

Now, if you really want to give up the battle is with:

The physical addiction.

Quite simply, if you stop you will face nicotine withdrawal symptoms and they are not pleasant.

You will face nausea, stress, irritability and fatigue, it's hard to cope with but there is good news.

You don't have to face the above!

You can simply take nicotine, which causes these symptoms outside of cigarettes and if you do it will do you no harm.

Nicotine is not dangerous!

Nicotine only provides the addictive nature of smoking and does not cause death or disease - That is some of the other 4,000 chemicals consumed in cigarettes, many of them poisons.

There are many ways to satisfy a nicotine craving.

You can use patches, gum, puffers and inhalers that all give you a measured dose.

Forget hypnotherapy and herbs, they don't satisfy the craving as they don't contain nicotine.

If you want to stop smoking you need a dose of nicotine.

If you are finding the addiction uncomfortable and you don't' have the willpower, you need some help.

Still worried about taking nicotine? Then read on.

Fact: Nicotine does you good!

Nicotine not only does you n0o harm, it actually does you good - When consumed outside of cigarettes.

Many people don't know that it's actually part of the natural food chain.

Trace elements are present in many everyday foods including:

Teas, tomatoes, potatoes and bell peppers, to name just a few.

In organic form it is safe non toxic and does you good.

It is proven to make you feel better by improving mood, attention and concentration and is being researched to provide help with a number of conditions from depression to Altziemer's disease.

Organic nicotine products are now being produced and the first one to hit the market with no added chemicals is nicotine in water.

Originally just aimed at smokers when they could not or did not wish to smoke, it's now being taken by many non smokers for its health benefits.

Final words.

Mentally it's easy to stop smoking - If you really want to you will.

The physical addiction is harder to overcome, as nicotine withdrawal symptoms are hard to cope with - So don't try!

Get help and satisfy your craving when you stop smoking.

Take nicotine outside of cigarettes and you know that not only will it satisfy your craving, it will not only do you no harm, but will actually be healthy for you as well.

If you understand the above and really want to stop smoking you will.
