Acupuncture is an alternative medical method that originated from China.

This method is based upon the old Chinese assumption that there are invisible energy point scattered across the human body. Theses energy points are called Meridians. during an Acupuncture treatment, tiny needles are inserted into the Meridians, causing he energy flow through them to change. This principle is used for quit a few benefits:

* It can "open up" energy blocks that will relieve pain and stress

* It can reduce cravings

* It can strengthen your energy and vitality

In the past years, Acupuncture has been used, among other uses, to help people stop smoking. The treatment included inserting the needles to specific points (among them, a few points in the outer ear). This treatment was supposed to reduce the cravings to another cigarette and help those people on their way to quit smoking. In the first few years of using this method, it was quit popular and gained a lot of followers that recommended it. That was mainly because the method is not invasive and is very suitable for people who can't, or won't take medicine and other "strong stuff".

But, for the last few years, the use of Acupuncture in smoking cessation has reduced significantly. This happens because of the following reasons:

* The percentage of people who actually stooped smoking while using Acupuncture
was small. This indicated that Acupuncture is not the best choice for people who want to quit smoking.

* New solutions were introduced to the scene, such as laser treatment, and shots treatment. This article does not discuss these methods, so let's just say that they proved to be by far more effective than Acupuncture.

To conclude, It is clear that Acupuncture has it's place as an alternative method, and many people report getting results with it. If you want to give it a shot in your efforts to stop smoking, it is advised that you find a therapist with a proven back record of success with helping people stop smoking.

However, I would say that as a means to help smoking cessation, there are much better solutions out there, so Acupuncture is in my opinion not the best choice.

Although the cravings are part of the problem, you'll also experience tingling of the hands, mental confusion, sweating, cramps, irritability, nausea, anxiety, headaches, and cold symptoms. Many of these symptoms occur simultaneously along with your cravings which makes the first 2 weeks the hardest to get through.

Although nicotine patches, pills, inhalers, and the like are popular options to help you get through this first few weeks, in actuality they have a rather low success rate. This is because your still feeding your body nicotine, which continues to make quitting a long and difficult process.

There are popular brands out such as Chantix and Zyban. These drugs will increase the levels of dopamine and Norepinephrine, which is what nicotine does. The big downside with these drugs is they bring with them nasty side effects such as nausea, stomach pain, a loss of energy, headaches, and insomnia. Now if I had a dollar for every time I have heard that question, I would be a rich man. "Does Nicotine Gum Work?" It really depends what you mean by that question.

If it means "Will Nicotine Gum Help Me Stop Cigarettes", then the short answer would be yes. A cigarette is nothing more than a very efficient nicotine delivery system, and a piece of nicotine chewing gum does the same thing, albeit poorly compared to the cigarette.

So assuming you are able to overcome the physical habit of smoking, i.e. lighting the cigarette, holding the cigarette a certain way, keeping your hands busy, distracting you, whatever it is, and the nicotine gum will help you control your cravings.

The problem is that while you may have cut out the more physically dangerous aspects of smoking, the tar, the 4,000 chemicals, the burning smoke entering your lungs, you are just as addicted as you were before, only now you are addicted to nicotine gum.

Remember, nicotine is a VERY ADDICTIVE DRUG, being addicted to it is a disease, and it's a disease YOU HAVE GOT.

So while nicotine chewing gum may help you stop consuming cigarettes, it will not help you get rid of your nicotine addiction. That's a battle you will have to face on your own, just as if you had stopped smoking cold turkey.

The sad reality is that the one-year success rate for people who quit smoking tobacco using nicotine gum is, according to long-term studies, less than 10%.

That means that for every 10 people who quit smoking using gum, in less than a year, 9 of them will be back smoking tobacco.

The problem with nicotine gum, and that goes for nicotine patches as well, is that they are a very inefficient way of ingesting nicotine. As dangerous as it is, a cigarette is BY FAR the better nicotine delivery system.

So while you may stop - for a while - smoking cigarettes (or any tobacco) using nicotine gum, as long as you keep feeding your nicotine addiction, you will NEVER BE FREE.
