As medicine and research has advanced over the past decades, the dangers of smoking tobacco have become more and more apparent. Those addicted to cigarettes are at a much high risk of developing lung cancer and cardiovascular disease than nonsmokers. Because many people are now aware of how smoking cigarettes can hurt them now and further down the line, more and more smokers are trying to kick their tobacco habits.

There are a number of stop-smoking methods that people have tried in their efforts to cut cigarettes out of their lives. Since each addiction and each person is unique, different methods work for different people. Currently, some of the most common cessation techniques include support groups, acupuncture, medications, nicotine patches and gum, or simply going cold turkey.

Support Groups

Many smokers will turn to support groups when they decide to quit. They may combine this method with any of the other ones, as well. Encouragement from fellow cigarette quitters, family members and friends has proven to be extremely important and motivational.

Acupuncture

Some people turn to acupuncture to help them kick their tobacco habits. Those who stand by this method swear that it not only eases the quitting process but also makes it less difficult to stay away from cigarettes in the future. Typically, acupuncture users will go in for treatment sessions one or two times a week, for up to six months. However, these numbers may be adjusted depending on the strength of the habit.

Medication

Some medicines, such as Chantix, have emerged on the market as aides to smoking cessation. These drugs alter the way the body receives and reacts to nicotine, making smokers crave cigarettes less and less. However, Chantix has been linked to a number of very dangerous psychological side effects that have caused users to become abnormally depressed, hostile, or even suicidal.

Nicotine Patches

The nicotine patch is one method of nicotine replacement therapy. These adhesives deliver small amounts of nicotine to the body in an effort to replace the nicotine from cigarettes. Those undergoing therapy slowly taper off the amount of nicotine in their patches, until eventually they feel no more cravings.

Cold Turkey

Finally, going cold turkey is one of the oldest but most difficult methods of quitting smoking. Under this technique, smokers pick a day to quit using cigarettes, and on that date they stop altogether. No nicotine replacement is used, and quitters must fight off their cravings with their own willpower.

As a smoker, you have probably tried a number of methods to get you to quit this bad habit. Some of you would have even tried to quit using your own will power, only to fail miserably. In truth, while these methods may be helpful to many, there will still be a percentage wherein these options will fail. When this happens, it may be necessary to employ self hypnosis techniques to help you stop smoking once and for all. By getting your subconscious mind to accept your desire to stop smoking, self hypnosis has proven to be one of the most effective treatments by which you can quit this nasty habit.

The three basic components of self hypnosis are relaxation, scripts and visualization. By attaining total relaxation through meditation techniques, you will be able to hypnotize yourself and open your subconscious mind to "suggestions" or self hypnosis scripts. Through the formulation of positive phrases and suggestions you gradually lull your subconscious into cooperating with your will to stop smoking. These self hypnosis scripts are strengthened by visualization techniques.

Through visualization, you are able to imagine yourself doing certain activities that you could not do while stuck with the habit of smoking. Regular practice of visualization techniques like "dissociated visualization" will soon have you imagining concrete images of yourself doing a lot of fun things as though you are watching yourself on a TV screen. The power of visualization lies in the fact that you are able to see yourself as you would be if you stopped smoking. By imagining yourself doing this activity, the more it becomes real to you, and it greatly increases the inevitability of your quitting the habit.

There are a few important factors to consider when using visualization. First, you should be completely decided that you are going to quit smoking. The decision to stop smoking is your intended outcome. By using your imagination and creativity, you can come up with ideas and images that strongly appeal to your emotions. To make these images more powerful, incorporate emotionally charged adjectives into your self hypnosis scripts that would describe these images. For example, if you are visualizing yourself going rock climbing, you can say "I am going to quit smoking so that I will be able to enjoy an exciting rock climbing adventure." If you visualize yourself on the beach, you can say "I am going to stop smoking so that I can go on a thrilling windsurfing holiday."

Another means by which you can effectively utilize visualization is by creating dramatic images of the bad aspects of smoking. You can start by visualizing the tobacco smoke, particularly how it looks, smells and tastes. Use negative associations so that you will begin to see tobacco smoke in a different light. You can associate cigarette or cigar smoke with the smell of garbage, a smelly shoe, or bad breath.

Remember that time early in my career of hypnosis. This was before I discovered EFT. I worked next to a Chinese doctor is very good and very good acupuncturist. I wanted to take in the most challenging to quit smoking and had felt that the combination of acupuncture and Hypnotherapy were producing great results. So I talked to my colleague acupuncturist and we agreed that send him the most challenged to acupuncture in combination with my Hypnotherapy.

We had success after success. I had previously not been able to help people were managing with relative ease. The mixture of body and mind was excellent.

Then I learned EFT. EFT, otherwise known as Tapping, involves the stimulation of specific acupressure points while verbally briefly connection problem. The first client that I tried with was a smoker then. I had given a hypnosis session before and was one of the few return for a booster. The EFT worked in minutes. I was sold.

Since then, most treatments of non-client were much more dramatic, but I think only occurs after the magic a couple of times in life. And I'm glad that my time to experience it was. I set on combining thereafter Hypnotherapy with EFT tapping, with results just as incredible as Hypnotherapy with acupuncture.

He began the dawning on me that if I had only used the techniques I developed for my stop smoking program without hypnosis and only using EFT, was going to work. Did it. And it worked even better than Hypnotherapy with acupuncture. It worked very well.

Hypnosis is still seen as the number one method to quit smoking. And that's because it has been around for more than EFT and there re many TV shows and stage with hypnosis. One day, we will have shows on EFT. I am really looking forward to that.

So if you're on the way to quit smoking, you will be amazed by the freedom that EFT can give you. Try It. It's called freedom techniques for a good reason!
