How Can I Quit Smoking is a thought uppermost in the minds of most smokers, though it is a task easier said than done. Finding an easy way to quit smoking is the ultimate goal for any smoker who has ever considered to get rid of this addictive habit. Most smokers will be quite shocked after reading this statement but apparently the best way to quit smoking is NOT related to some miracle medicine in the form of pills, patches, chewing gums or other so called alternatives for addictive component of cigarettes mostly known as nicotine. To quit smoking is as simple as making the decision to quit. The key to quit smoking is understanding the process: why you smoke, how you got into it, what does it do to your body and what happens when you stop.

Here are 5 ways to help you quit :-

1. The main reason that may cause you to gain weight when you quit smoking is that when you can no longer enjoy the pleasure of smoking, you may substitute your newfound pleasure in eating for that of smoking. So that means having plenty of fruit, carrots or celery to chew on and of course sugarless gum to hand.

2. Think of the benefits . Quitting smoking not only extends the ex-smoker's life, but adds new happiness and meaning to one's current life. It is beneficial at any age, no matter how long a person has been smoking. Quitting smoking is not easy but you know this so you need to do something that blocks out the thought process of having a smoke. And that means keeping busy and putting all the paraphernalia of smoking out of your reach or at least making them hard to get at ! Never buy large quantities of cigarettes- it is like having a large portion of food in front of you.

3. Since smoking is often a response to stress, whatever you can do to reduce the stress in your life will help you to quit. You may want to consider relaxation techniques, massage, sports - anything to get your mind off your problems. The release of endorphins after most physical activity will lift your mood and help you to feel more positive. It really does help you to cope better with stress.

4. Tell everybody that you are trying to quit smoking. Let people know what your objectives are so that they can encourage you.
Report back on your progress. You may not be able to stop immediately but one less cigarette in a day is a small victory.

5. Drink plenty of water - you may experience a dry mouth which is one of the withdrawal symptoms. Water has zero calories and will get rid of the toxins in your body. I found that brushing your teeth, especially after dinner when you would normally reach for the cigarette pack, is a great help.

As you gain in confidence you will feel the benefits of better health. I remember my father telling me about what came out of his lungs! He never looked back and he had been a heavy smoker. It is difficult to give up smoking but there are many programs which will make it easy to quit smoking.
